GRAMMY NOMINEE GOSPEL SINGER COMING TO RADFORD

Three-time Grammy Award nominee gospel singer Vickie Winans will be in the New River Valley this month.

She'll be featured at a benefit banquet and concert sponsored by the\ RADFORD CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST at 6 p.m. Sept. 25 at Custom Catering, 902 Patrick Henry Drive in Blacksburg.

Winans has performed on Broadway and has her own syndicated TV show, "Singsation." She also is a national spokeswoman for several Quaker Oats Company products. Her latest gospel album is "The Lady."

The church's choir and musicians will be on hand for the benefit.

Dress is semi-formal. Tickets are $35 for the public and $25 for students with identification. Reservations are not needed.

Money raised will go into the church's building fund. The church dedicated a new sanctuary on Russell Avenue and Clay Street in Radford in March 1991.

The Rev. John R. Campbell, rector of\ CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH in Pulaski from 1958 to 1968, will return there to conduct worship Sunday at 8 and 11 a.m.

Campbell later served a Winston-Salem, N.C. parish for more than 20 years.

The celebration day for the new fall program also will include a potluck lunch and a newcomers' recognition.

The\ FIRST MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH in New River will hold an installation service today at 4 p.m. for Pastor-elect Ronald E. Brown Sr.

\ ALLEGHANY CHURCH OF CHRIST, 2095 N. Franklin St., Christiansburg, will mark its 157th anniversary with a homecoming and revival Sunday through Friday.

Sunday school will start at 10 a.m. and morning worship at 11. A dinner on the grounds will follow the worship.

Revival services with Jack Hyder, a former pastor, will be Sunday at 6 p.m. and Monday through Friday, 7:30 each evening. Hyder also will conduct the homecoming service.

Dr. Henry M. Morris, founder and president of the Institute of Creation Research, will make two presentations on the validity of scientific creationism Sept. 18 in 100 McBryde Hall on the Virginia Tech campus. The seminars are free and open to the public.

Victory Temple Pentecostal Church of God, Christiansburg, will hold an old-fashioned tent revival Monday through Saturday, 7:30 each evening, at 411 Lester St. (Lester and Forest streets).

The Bible Study Fellowship will study the Gospel of Matthew this year. A daytime group will meet Wednesdays, starting Wednesday, 9:10-10:15 a.m., at First Wesleyan Church, Giles Road, Blacksburg. There's also a program for preschool children (2 to 5 years old) of class members. Children should be registered before they attend.

The annual\ CROP WALK in Radford is set for Oct. 17, sponsored by the Radford-Fairlawn Ministerial Association. Volunteer walkers get pledges throughout the community to raise money to help alleviate world hunger through Church World Service programs.

Twenty-five percent of the amount raised during Radford's 6.2-mile trek will be divided among the Women's Resource Center, Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread and the Radford Food Pantry.
