VIDEOS OFFER BEST OF `MARY TYLER MOORE'

The "Mary Tyler Moore" series, which won a whopping 27 Emmy Awards during its 1970-1977 run on CBS, is now available on 10 home videos. The show was recently named the best program in television history by Entertainment Weekly.

Three cassettes have special themes. One, "Mary's Greatest Dates," combines two memorable shows, "Lou Dates Mary" and "Mary Richards Falls in Love." The second, "Ted's Funniest Moments," packages two more. One features Ted Baxter's encounter with Walter Cronkite, the other his rumor-spreading "Affair to Forget" with Mary, who is not very successful trying to deny the story.

The third special reel may well be the most famous episode of the series, Emmy-winner "Chuckles Bites the Dust." In that one, Chuckles the Clown dresses up as a giant peanut to marshal a parade but is "de-shelled" by an elephant, which sets the stage for a most outrageous and memorable funeral.

Each video, being distributed by UAV, has a running time of 50 minutes and is listed at $9.99. Seven contain two unedited classic episodes. They are: 1. "Love Is All Around" (premiere) and "Today I Am a Ma'am." 2. "Bess, You Is My Daughter Now" and "Divorce Isn't Everything." 3. "Support Your Local Mother" and "Keep Your Guard Up." 4. "Toulouse-Lautrec Is One of My Favorite Artists" and "The Snow Must Go On." 5. "Assistant Wanted, Female" and "Bob & Rhoda & Ted & Mary." 6. "1040 or Fight" and "Anchorman Overboard." 7. "He's All Yours" and "Howard's Girl."

Installments from two other TV series, "Cheers" and "Quantum Leap," are being released on home video this month. Seven volumes of "Cheers," winner of 26 Emmy Awards in 11 years, are due out Sept. 29. The first, the one-hour premiere episode, is listed at $9.99. The others, at $12.95, are two-episode cassettes.

These three series join many other TV hits available on home video, such as "Star Trek," "The Honeymooners," "M*A*S*H," "Rawhide," "Northern Exposure," "The Bob Newhart Show," "Gilligan's Island," "St. Elsewhere," "Hill Street Blues," "WKRP in Cincinnati" and "Newhart."
