OBIT ROBERTS, ALICE SUTHERLAND

ROBERTS, Alice Sutherland, 97, of Elk Creek, died Friday, September 10, 1993, at Wythe County Community Hospital. She was born in Alleghany County, N.C. to David and Jenny Daniel Cox and was one of ten children, three brothers and six sisters, all of whom preceded her in death. She also had four half brothers and a half sister, of whom three preceded her in death. She was married to William Carl Sutherland of Comers Rock, who died after a happy marriage of nineteen years. After his death, she married Zack J. Roberts, a cousin of her husband. Survivors include a son, Carl Cox Sutherland; her daughter-in-law, Katherine Stone Sutherland, McLean; a granddaughter, Ann Sutherland Armistead and her husband, Lt. Keith Armistead, Charleston, S.C.; a half sister, Marguerite Andrews and a half brother, McNeil Cox, Cleveland, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Roberts was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church at Elk Creek, a member of the United Methodist Women and belonged to the New River Pioneer Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Friends may call at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 1993. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 1993 at Lebanon United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Eminhizer officiating. Interment to follow in Comers Rock Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elk Creek Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 147, Elk Creek, Va. 24326. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
