Junior running back Billy Thomas ran for 133 yards and scored two touchdowns, including a first-half 92-yard run.
The Rockets (0-2, 0-1) were held to 51 yards rushing and 28 yards passing.

MARTINSVILLE - Freshman running back Manti Venable rushed for 139 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Bulldogs scored all their points in the second half of the non-district season opener for both teams.
The Knights led 8-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Venable ran a kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown and scored on 10- and 72-yard runs.
Cave Spring was held to 14 yards rushing.

BUCHANAN - Derick Logan rushed for five touchdowns as the Cavaliers opened their season with a non-district victory over the Knights.
Logan carried only 10 times but piled up 188 yards. His third touchdown run covered 67 yards and his fourth 62.
Jermaine Fitzgerald carried 11 times for 79 yards and two touchdowns for Chatham.
The Knights (0-1), who dressed only 18 players, were hampered by four turnovers and 60 yards in penalties.
Shahan Burrell carried 21 times for 149 yards and two touchdowns for James River. Freshman Wesley Cox picked up 107 yards on the ground, including a 48-yard touchdown run. \

ROCKY MOUNT - In a game that opened with back-to-back kickoff returns for touchdowns, the Lancers stepped up in classification and handed the Eagles their 20th consecutive loss, the longest current losing streak in Group AAA.
Laurel Park's DeShannon Adams, a 5-foot-9, 186-pound senior, returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and scored three other times on runs of 8, 11 and 7 yards. He finished with 17 carries for 94 yards.
Laurel Park fumbled the snap after its first touchdown, allowing Franklin County (0-2) to take its only lead of the night when Stacy Helms returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards. The point-after kick put the Eagles ahead 7-6.
Laurel Park (1-0) came back on the first of two touchdown runs by Charles Craddock, who had four carries for 52 yards. Franklin County tied the score at 14 on a fumble recovery and 10-yard return, but the Lancers scored two more times in the second quarter.
Laurel Park had 344 yards in total offense, 297 on the ground, and held Franklin County to a total of 181 yards.

BEDFORD - Senior fullback Greg Richie ran for two touchdowns as the Minutemen won a Seminole District game over the Raiders.
Appomattox (0-2) opened the scoring in the first quarter when senior tailback Jon Brest scored on a 1-yard run and then added the extra point. Brest finished with 45 of the Raiders' 58 yards rushing.
Richie, who also plays linebacker, answered for Liberty (1-1) with a 28-yard touchdown run. He rushed for 138 yards on 12 carries including a 12-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Liberty added a field goal in the third to cap the scoring.
Liberty quarterback Mike Padgett completed five of 10 passes for 106 yards with one interception.
Seth Clabough was 9-for-25 for 139 yards with two interceptions for the Raiders.

AMHERST - Cameron Kinney scored on runs of 42 and 18 yards as the Lancers rolled to the non-district win over the Golden Eagles (0-2).
Larry Hunter added an 8-yard touchdown run and Alphonso Matthews scored on a 1-yard run to complete the scoring for Amherst County (1-0). \
