INFOLINE GIVES FANS A LINE ON SPORTS SCORES

Today, the Roanoke Times & World-News introduces InfoLine, a free news and information service that lets you use your Touch-Tone telephone to get up-to-date news, sports and entertainment information 24 hours a day.

For sports fans, that means a wider variety of more up-to-date sports information - scores and highlights - than we've be able to offer callers to our Sportsline service.

In each day's Scoreboard, we will publish a list of InfoLine sports category codes. The 15 categories offer a broad range of information - from baseball to tennis to auto racing to Bill Cochran's outdoors report. Most are updated daily. Some are updated hourly while games are in progress.

The latest scores from local high schools and regional colleges will be on InfoLine, too.

You can listen to scores in more than one category during a single call, so now you can get college scores and auto racing results without having to call back. In addition, we have expanded the calling area - most New River Valley readers now have a local number to call.

So that's the good news - and we think it's pretty good.

You'll have to learn a new phone number. In the Roanoke Valley, call 981-0100. In the New River Valley, call 382-0200. We hope you'll try InfoLine, then let us know what you think.
