NLRB VALIDATES ANTI-UNION VOTE AT HOMESTEAD

Union objections that management at The Homestead in Hot Springs acted incorrectly during a recent collective bargaining campaign at the resort have been overruled by the National Labor Relations Board.

On July 30, employees voted against representation by the Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union. The union filed an objection, charging that hotel management had threatened to close the hotel if employees voted for the union.

Dan Ingalls Jr., president of Virginia Hot Springs Inc., said the board found "nothing to substantiate" the charges, and it certified the election. He said he got a copy of the decision in Monday's mail.

It appeared for a time that the union's objection might interfere with a sale of the property to a Dallas company, which had as part of its purchase agreement that the resort's employees must remain nonunion. Ingalls said last week, however, that a sale agreement had been reached and shareholders would vote on the sale Oct. 4.
