NAVY JET CRASHES OFF CAPE HATTERAS

A Navy F-14B Tomcat crashed in the Atlantic about 40 miles northeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C., after its two crewmen safely ejected Monday, the Navy said.

Both men were pulled from the water by a charter fishing boat and transferred by a Navy helicopter to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington. Both men were in stable condition, according to Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Wensing, spokesman for the Atlantic Fleet Naval Air Force.

Wensing declined to identify the two fliers.

He said the Tomcat was based at the Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach. - Associated Press
