BALANCED INDIANS ROUT SALEM 52-22

Eleven players scored for Blacksburg as the Indians trounced Salem 52-22 Tuesday night in a non-district high school girls' basketball game.

Salem went 18 minutes between its fourth and fifth field goals. The Spartans scored only seven points in the second and third quarters.

Amy Mathena and Lisa Price scored eight points each to pace the balanced Blacksburg (4-1) attack. Shellie Johnson had six points to lead Salem. \

MAX MEADOWS - Angie Simpkins scored seven of her 23 points as the Pioneers began to pull away in the second quarter on the way to a Mountain Empire District victory.

Trish Stuart had 10 points for the Pioneers (2-2 overall, 2-1 in the district). Auburn remained undefeated at 4-0 (3-0 in the district). \

Christiansburg 55

CHRISTIANSBURG - Trisha Rice scored 18 points and Nicole Curtis added 16 as the Mountaineers downed the Demons in a non-district contest.

Alleghany (4-1) hit 16 of 21 shots from the free-throw line. Rebecca McNeil of Christiansburg (3-2) led all scorers with 23 points.

Narrows 36

NARROWS - Kelly Ryan made five jumpers and had 11 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter as Shawsville zipped away to beat Mountain Empire District foe Narrows and claim its first victory of the year.
