OBIT COOPER, ROY WALTER

COOPER, Roy Walter, 82, of Rocky Mount, died Tuesday, September 14, 1993, at his home. He was born March 4, 1911, a son of the late Hayden Cooper and Minnie Arrington Cooper. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, was retired from the Lane Company, and was a faithful and longtime member of the Furnace Creek Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and had taught Sunday school. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Lucy C. Cooper; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Mervin Peters; a son, Gary W. Cooper; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Tammy and Jeff Hodges; a special great-granddaughter, Ashley Renea Hodges; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Beulah and Clyde Hodges, Mary (Nina) Cooper; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Doc and Lucille Cooper, Etta Cooper, all of Rocky Mount. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 1993, at the Furnace Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Troy E. Mays and the Rev. Bill Doss officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. Wednesday, and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Arrington-Bussey Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.
