BECK LEADS BASSMASTER

Gerald Beck of Lexington, N.C., took the first-day lead Wednesday in the $195,000 BASSMASTER Virginia Invitational at Kerr Reservoir with five bass weighing 17 pounds, 1 ounce.

Rick Clunn of Montgomery, Texas, was in second place with five bass weighing 16 pounds, 13 ounces, followed by Mark Russell of Oklahoma City with 14 pounds, 1 ounce.

Woo Daves of Spring Grove was 63rd after catching four fish weighing 6 pounds, 14 ounces.

The three-day event is the first of 10 qualifiers for the BASS Masters Classic world championship in August 1994 in Greensboro, N.C.
