UVA ROUTS TECH 6-1 IN SOCCER

Virginia Tech couldn't stop the nation's top college soccer player, Claudio Reyna, as top-ranked Virginia overpowered the Hokies 6-1 on Wednesday in Charlottesville.

Reyna scored two goals for Virginia (5-0), which led 3-0 at halftime. Tain Nix and Mike Fisher each added a goal and an assist, and Mike Slivinksi helped set up two goals for the Cavaliers.

Virginia dominated play with a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks, but the Cavaliers lost their shutout bid when Brian Reeves scored on a 25-yard drive with 6 minutes, 24 seconds to play in the game.

Virginia Tech's record is 3-2.

In other college news:

Radford's worst start ever continued in men's soccer as the Highlanders dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 25 Virginia Commonwealth in Radford.

The Rams (5-0) outshot Radford (0-6) 22-7 overall and got a goal and an assist from Vladislav Bezborodov.

Charley Butcher scored both goals as Roanoke College opened its Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's soccer season with a 2-0 victory over visiting Randolph-Macon.

Rick Keley made five saves en route to the shutout for the Maroons (4-1 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC). Ethan Cook and North Cross graduate Dustin Fonder had assists for Roanoke.

Randolph-Macon is 4-2, 0-1.
