ANDRETTI ABANDONS FORMULA ONE RACING

Michael Andretti has cut short his disappointing Formula One rookie season and will return to the Indy-car circuit next year.

Andretti, ineffective on the international circuit through the first 13 races of 1993, will leave Team McLaren without competing in the final three races of the season.

\ Marlena Cooke, the wife of Washington Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke, was arrested early Wednesday in Georgetown and charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Cooke, 37, was with a man identified by police as Patrick F. Wermer, 26, of Alexandria. Police said Wermer was charged with disorderly conduct after a police officer spotted him riding on the hood of Cooke's Jaguar convertible.
