SCHOOL GIVES RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION

Two Wythe County students have been excused from attending public schools under a state religious-exemption statute.

The county School Board voted Wednesday to allow the exemptions, following a closed session to consider the request from the students' parents.

It is the first time such an exemption has been approved in Wythe County in modern times.

The School Board did not disclose the names or ages of the students involved.
