ROANOKE COUNTY PLANNING PANEL MEMBER RESIGNS

Ronald L. Massey has resigned from Roanoke County's Planning Commission because he has been promoted by First Union National Bank and is moving to Charlotte, N.C.

"I've been here all my life; we're deeply rooted here, but opportunity knocks," Massey said. "It's a tremendous career opportunity for me, to be quite honest."

Massey was promoted from vice president in charge of First Union's service center division on mergers to vice president in charge of electronic banking, a job that takes him to the Charlotte headquarters of the country's eighth largest bank.

Massey joined the Planning Commission as Hollins District representative in 1987, and was the commission's chairman in 1992.

"We're going to miss his pragmatic, clear thinking," said Don Witt, Planning Commission chairman.
