CHRISTIANSBURG COUPLE CLAIM $100,000 PRIZE

A Christiansburg, Va., couple who won a $100,000 Powerball prize said they plan to use their winnings to pay for tuition and a new house.

Johnny Keplinger, 36, and Jan Bassette, 40, claimed their prize from Saturday's drawing at West Virginia Lottery headquarters Thursday, spokeswoman Nancy Bulla said.

Keplinger is a full-time agriculture education student at Virginia Tech. Bassette is a nurse, Bulla said.

Keplinger, a native of Petersburg, bought the winning ticket in Wardensville while visiting friends.

The holder of the other winning ticket bought in West Virginia for Saturday's drawing has not claimed the $100,000 prize. A man who said he and 11 co-workers bought it will be in Charleston on Friday, Bulla said.

There have been 34 winning Powerball tickets sold in West Virginia since the game began in 1992, Bulla said. Tickets are sold in 14 states and Washington, D.C.
