PRO BOWLERS COME ROLLING INTO VINTON

Striking will be the name of the game this weekend in Vinton.

Several notable regulars on the Professional Bowlers Association's national tour and many of the best bowlers from the Mid-Atlantic region will converge on the Vinton Bowling Center for the 10th Coca-Cola Classic PBA Southern Regional tournament.

The entry list includes PBA national tour competitors Guppy Troup, Jeff Bellinger, Dennis Jacques, Joe Viscomie, Sam Zurich and Jimmy Certain.

Top regional entrants include Paul Zevgolis of Richmond; Dave Olm of King, N.C.; Rich Dodge of Woodbridge; Jim Lewis of Waldorf, Md.; Paul Kouhler of Stuart, Fla.; Steve Tood of Ashland, Ky.; and Jeff Edens of Ocala, Fla.

Action starts at 6 p.m. today with the pro-am event, in which amateurs will bowl three games with three different pros.

The pros take over the house Saturday and Sunday.

The 144-player field will be trimmed to the low 16 scores in Saturday's session, which runs 8 a.m. to midnight.

Another qualifying round Sunday morning will pare the field to five players. The five-man roll-off for the $3,000 first prize will start at about 1 p.m. Sunday.
