GLENVAR AVENGES LOSS TO WILLIAM BYRD

Toree Morris scored a game-high 19 points, including two 3-pointers, as Glenvar whipped William Byrd 51-36 in a non-district girls' basketball game Thursday night at the Highlanders' gym.

William Byrd beat Glenvar 52-45 in the final of last week's William Byrd Tipoff Tournament.

Marilea Hale added 13 points and 10 rebounds for Glenvar (4-1), which led 27-13 at the half and never looked back. Kristi Robinson contributed five assists.

Jaclyn Banks scored 11 points for William Byrd (3-2).

Lord Botetourt 66\ James River 39

BUCHANAN - Senior forward Ashley Moore scored 16 points, and senior center Jenny Gates poured in 15 as the second-ranked team in Timesland rolled past the Knights in a non-district matchup.

Lord Botetourt (6-1 overall) broke open the game with an 18-6 second quarter and never looked back.

Teresa Hickman led James River (1-4) with 18 points.

Liberty 57\ Jefferson Forest 36

FOREST - Aided by nine Cavaliers turnovers in the fourth quarter, the Minettes outscored Jefferson Forest 22-3 to win the Seminole District matchup.

Amy Baxter scored 14 points for Liberty (4-2), Felicia Miller added 13 and Sue Lynn Cowlbuck scored eight and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Jefferson Forest is 1-4.

Staunton River 57\ Buckingham Co. 38

BUCKINGHAM - Tanya Nelms fired in 21 points, including two 3-point goals, as unbeaten Staunton River walloped Buckingham County to remain the lone unbeaten Seminole District team.

The Golden Eagles also got 14 points from junior guard Deena Mitchell as they improved their record to 4-0 overall and in the district.

Buckingham County (0-8, 0-8) was led by Marquita Baker with 17.
