KELLOGG GRANT KEEPS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE PROJECT

The Institute for Leadership and Volunteer Development at Virginia Tech will continue its "Southeastern Minority Trainer of Trainers Program" with a $300,000 grant from the Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creek, Mich.

The project's objective, according to director Oscar Williams, is to address the leadership development needs of black leaders in Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama.

Participants learn about parliamentary procedure, board and staff relations, committee development, long-range planning and basic principles of good leadership.

Leaders complete the program and go on to train others in their communities.

The project works with about 10,000 black leaders in the Southeast. It is based on a pilot program developed in Virginia and is in its third year. Total funding from the Kellogg Foundation has been $1.1 million.
