AUTO RACING-FCS STILL RUNNING STRONG

The Franklin County Speedway schedule tonight features eight races, including the modified division - which runs every other week - and a powder puff event for female drivers.

Looking ahead, a Winston Cup crew members' race and an appearance by NASCAR Winston Cup legend Bobby Allison highlight the schedule Sept. 25.

Gates open at noon for today's racing, qualifying starts at 6 p.m., and the first green flag falls at 8 p.m. Admission is $5, and children under 10 are admitted free.

The Roanoke Valley Sports Club's NASCAR Night will be held Wednesday at the Salem Civic Center.

Featured speakers are drivers Rick Mast of Rockbridge Baths and Jimmy Hensley of Ridgeway, as well as a member of the Wood Brothers racing team.

A social will begin at 6:15 p.m., with dinner set for 7 p.m. Members and guests can make reservations by calling 389-7373 or 989-5927. The deadline for reservations is noon Monday.
