CHRISTIANSBURG EDGES TAZEWELL COUNTY

Andre Beasley rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns Friday night to lift Christiansburg to a 30-28 victory over Tazewell County in a non-district game.

Beasley's 31-yard touchdown run with less than five minutes remaining put the Demons (2-1) up by 10 to clinch the victory.

Tazewell County (1-1) and Christiansburg each scored on kickoff returns in the first quarter. Following Beasley's first TD, Tazewell County's Curtis Johnson returned the ensuing kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown. Not to be outdone, the Demons' Steve Surratt returned the Bulldogs' kickoff 85 yards for a score. \

Alleghany 32

Radford 30

COVINGTON - The Bobcats' fourth-quarter rally wasn't enough, and Alleghany held on to win the battle of explosive offenses in a non-district matchup.

The win was not without a price, however. Alleghany quarterback David Dixon left the game in the second quarter, and may have broken his leg.

Radford (2-1) trailed 32-16 in the final period and cut Alleghany's lead to two points behind a pair of Larnelle Lewis touchdown runs. Lewis also ran for a 43-yard touchdown earlier in the game. Alleghany is 3-0. \

Carroll County 18

Galax 12

GALAX - The Cavaliers shot out to an 18-0 lead, then staved off a furious fourth-quarter comeback by the Maroon Tide to score the non-district win.

Nicky Rodrigue, who ran for 106 yards on 27 carries, put Carroll County (2-2) up 6-0 in the first quarter on a 5-yard run. Jason Kilbourne figured in the other two Cavalier scores, galloping 45 yards for a touchdown and firing a 34-yard touchdown pass to Brad Watson.

Galax (1-2) scored all of its points in the final quarter. \

Floyd County 35

Auburn 20

RINER - Five players scored touchdowns for Floyd County as the Buffaloes (2-1 overall, 1-1 Mountain Empire District) downed Auburn.

Monty Moran scored on a 15-yard run and threw a 5-yard pass to Jason Pratt for another Floyd score. Auburn is 1-2, 1-1. \

Grayson County 28

Shawsville 0

INDEPENDENCE - The unbeaten Blue Devils capitalized on eight turnovers by the Shawnees, three of which set up touchdowns, to score the Mountain Empire District win.

Shawsville (0-2, 0-2) outgained Grayson County (3-0, 2-0) by 50 yards - 180-130 - but couldn't overcome its multitude of miscues. \
