NAMES & CHANGES

Lorch to run Armstrong

Roanoke native GEORGE A. LORCH has been elected president and chief executive officer of Armstrong World Industries Inc., a Lancaster, Pa.-based maker of floor coverings, textiles and related interior furnishings. Lorch, 51, has been an executive vice president and director of the company since 1988.

He graduated from Roanoke's former Jefferson High School and Virginia Tech and joined Armstrong in 1963. He became marketing manager for the residential ceiling systems division in 1976, was named general sales manager of the industry products division in 1978, and became group vice president for carpet operations in 1983. He is a director of The Stanley Works, a Connecticut-based tool and specialty hardware manufacturer; a trustee of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster; and a member of the Parents' Council of Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

COLLEGES

\ MICHAEL NOVAK and LESLIE SHIPP have been promoted in Ferrum College's admissions office. Novak is now associate director of admissions after serving as assistant director of admissions. Shipp is assistant director of admissions after working as an admissions counselor.

COMPUTER SERVICES

\ KYLE HYPES has been named director of training for Dominion Technology Services Inc., a computer training and consulting firm in Roanoke. He will be responsible for corporate training programs and software development. Before joining Dominion Technology Services, Hypes was a software trainer and computer consultant at ComputerLand Corp. for over five years. He has also worked as a computer instructor in the public school system and at National Business College.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

\ TERRI PAYNE and TOM McCAIN have been named personal financial planners with the Roanoke office of IDS Financial Services Inc. Payne had previously been employed by Dominion Bank as a fund manager. McCain had previously been employed with New York Life Insurance Co. He is a member of the Association of Christian Economists.

\ LINDSEY M. QUESINBERRY of J.C. Bradford & Co. has been named a limited partner in the brokerage firm.

MEDICINE

\ DR. JOHN MITCHELL has become a senior associate with Emergency Room Associates Inc. He practices emergency medicine at Roanoke Memorial and Community hospitals.

Downtown Roanoke Inc. elected nine people to three-year terms on its board of directors at its annual meeting last week: JOHN C. BERRY of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia, H. \ GREG M. POIRIER, general manager and vice president of Doe Run Lodge in Hillsville, has been appointed to the recently reactivated small business committee of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
