SELF-DEFENSE CLASS FOR WOMEN

A self-defense class for women will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 9 as part of the observance of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

It is co-sponsored by the Family Resource Center, a regional shelter for victims of abuse, and Shanaki Karate Studio and will be held at the studio on the corner of 5th Street and Franklin Road.

The cost is $20. Participants can register by calling 228-6543.

The instructor will be Penny Shannon, who has taught martial arts to members of state, county and town law enforcement officials and trained many students who have gone on to win national and regional martial arts championships. She has been active in the field for 28 years.
