Actor James Caan, best known for his role as a mobster in the 1972 film, "The Godfather," was questioned for hours Saturday by police investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered outside a Los Angeles apartment where the actor was visiting.
The cause of the victim's death and his identity remained under investigation, Capt. William Gartland told reporters outside the Police Department's West Los Angeles station.
Officers who arrived at the apartment, on a fashionable stretch of Wilshire Boulevard, about 7:30 a.m. brought Caan to the station. He left just before 5 p.m. in an unmarked car with two detectives.
"As of this time he is just a witness," Gartland said.
Caan's film credits besides "The Godfather" include "Honeymoon in Vegas," "Misery," "For the Boys," "Cinderella Liberty," "Rollerball," "A Bridge Too Far" and the new movie "The Program."
