OBIT SEMONES, JOHN BURLEY

SEMONES, John Burley, 70, of Hillsville, passed away Saturday, September 18, 1993, at Lewis-Gale Hospital. He was born September 2, 1923 in Carroll County to John Wilson Semones and Minnie Inez Vass Semones. He was a longtime member and active Deacon at Skyview Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Coulson Semones; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Leonard Banks of Hillsville and Burline and Larry Mitchell of Hillsville; two sons and daughter-in-law, Carson and Linda Semones of Radford and John Semones and fiancee, Debbie Hull of Salem; four sisters, Hattie Branscome of Hillsville, Sadie Bowman of Cloverdale, Goldie Utt of Mt. Airy, N.C. and Lora Davenport of Mt. Airy, N.C.; four brothers-in-law, Thornton Sowers of Mt. Airy, N.C., Swanson Bowman of Roanoke, Paul Goad of Hillsville and Ivan Utt of Mt. Airy, N.C.; eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, September 20, 1993, at 2:30 p.m. at the Skyview Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Webb-Skyview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Skyview Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund.
