DESHAZO MAY MISS MD. GAME

Virginia Tech quarterback Maurice DeShazo, who has a sprained knee, remains questionable for the Hokies' football game this week, and Tech learned cornerback Scott Jones will miss at least one week after injuring a kneecap Saturday against third-ranked Miami.

Jones, a senior from Bristol who had started all three of Tech's games, collided with a teammate and his kneecap popped out of and back into place. Tech coach Frank Beamer said on the Big East Football Conference's weekly conference call Monday that Jones may be out for two weeks.

Beamer said all-conference cornerback Tyronne Drakeford, who sprained his shoulder against Pittsburgh, should return against Maryland. Free safety Antonio Banks (sprained ankle) is questionable for the Maryland game, Beamer said.

Freshman Larry Green or sophomore William Yarborough will start in Jones' place, Beamer said. Green had won the starting job in preseason but missed the first two games with a sprained ankle.
