GREYHOUND JOINS THE AIR FARE WAR

Greyhound Lines Inc., which is seeing some of its passengers wooed away by low airline fares, is offering half-price tickets for customers who buy their tickets 14 days in advance.

The Dallas-based company increased the discount to 50 percent from 35 percent and made the price effective every day rather than only on Tuesday-Thursday trips.

Greyhound launched the deeper price cuts as U.S. airlines were set to end the fall fare sale that slashed ticket prices up to 45 percent. Spokeswoman Elizabeth Dunn said Greyhound faces low-price competition from both airlines and regional bus operators.

Greyhound will give a 50 percent discount for tickets bought at least 14 days in advance, 35 percent off for seven days in advance, and 25 percent off for three days in advance. The discounts expire Jan. 31 and are not available during peak holiday travel days. - Dallas Morning News
