VIRGINIA TECH FAMILY WEEKEND

Mom and dad will get a chance to sit in on their son's or daughter's classes as part of Virginia Tech's Family Weekend, Oct. 1 through Oct. 3. Also on the schedule are campus tours and various open houses. There are even events for younger siblings, including a scavenger hunt Oct. 2.

A parents' forum is set for Oct. 2, 10:30 a.m.-noon, with Thomas Goodale, vice president for student affairs. The session will give parents a chance to discuss current issues at Virginia Tech.

The university's newest residence hall - Payne Hall - will be dedicated Oct. 2. at 2 p.m. The building is named for the Rev. Alfred C. Payne, who retired in 1981 as coordinator of religious affairs at the campus and is now is emeritus chaplain.

Also on the schedule are concerts, movies, a Corps of Cadets review and even a hike.
