OBIT HANSHEW, LORIN BENTON

HANSHEW, Lorin Benton, 79, of Ceres, died Monday, September 20, 1993, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Ceres, on August 22, 1914, the son of the late Charles William and Maude Umbarger Hanshew. He was a retired welder from the Portsmouth Naval Yard. He was a member of the Bland Masonic Lodge #206 AF&AM. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Harmon Hanshew; two daughter and one son-in-law, Elaine Kegley, Wytheville, Norma and Harlow Bales, Salem; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Frieda Hanshew, Ceres, Michael and Linda Hanshew, Atkins; eight grandchildren, Will Kegley, Teresa and Lorin B. Hanshew, Lisa Manspile, Michael, Elsie, Shane, and Kalif Hanshew. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 1993, at the Bethany United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Schoeneman officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany Church Cemetery, with the Bland Masonic Lodge #206 AF&AM conducting graveside rites. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. The family will receive friends at the Newberry Funeral Home in Bland, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the Bland Eastern Star conducting services at 8 p.m. The family suggests that those who prefer, may make memorial donations to the Bland County Rescue Squad or the Bethany United Methodist Church. Newberry Funeral Home in Bland, is in charge of the arrangements.
