OBIT RICHARDSON, W. E.
RICHARDSON, W. E., ("Bill"), 66, a resident of Woodland Hills, Abingdon,
died Monday, September 20, 1993, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was native
of Ivanhoe in Wythe County, Va. and had worked for the City of Roanoke Police,
Roanoke, Va. before moving to Abingdon, Va. where he served with the Virginia
State Police for 21 years until retirement. He then served with the Pittston
Coal Company as Security Maintenance Supervisor and later in the same position
with the Bristol Mall. At the time of his death he was working as an
investigator for Professional Investigation Services. He was a member of the
Glenrochie Country Club, the Virginia Highlands Society and was a past
president of the Washington County Fair and Burley Tobacco Festival. He was
responsible for the Horse Show Arena that was recently built at the festival
grounds. He was instrumental in the building of the Abingdon Minor League
Baseball field and had served as an active leader in the Boy Scouts. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Virginia State Police Alumni
Association and was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. He is
survived by his wife, Jackie Anderson Richardson of Abingdon; one son, W.E.
"Rick" Richardson, Jr. of Abingdon; one brother, Charles L. Richardson of
Draper; two grandchildren, Jillian Richardson and Suzanne Richardson, both of
Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for W.E. "Bill"
Richardson will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Campbell Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Betty Reiff officiating. Graveside services will be
conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the West End Cemetery, Wytheville. Active
Pallbearers will be: Joe D. Mitchell, Guy Davidson, Bob Craig, Bryan Gentry,
Jim Camicia, John McClure, Russell Young and Jim Davis. Honorary Pallbearers
will be: Joe W. Derting, Bill Sutherland, Gary Hughes, Kyle Hughes, George
Peters, Charles R. Collins, Fred Wilson, Roger Brannon, Dewey Rose, James C.
Rasnake, James Earley, David C. Counts, Carlos Nash and Harold Wright.
