ROCKY GAP DEFEATS FORT CHISWELL 67-60

Rocky Gap built an 11-point lead in the first quarter and held on to defeat Fort Chiswell 67-60 in a Mountain Empire District high school girls' basketball game Tuesday night.

Nancy Tupper led the Eagles (4-4, 3-2) with 22 points, and freshman Amanda Clark contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds. Christie Whitt scored 14 points.

Amy Lyons led the Pioneers with 16 points, and Anesha Marshall and Trish Stuart scored 10 each. \

Gretna 56

MARTINSVILLE - Toy Perkins scored 19 points and Torsheda Dillard added 15 as the Lancers rolled past the Hawks in a Piedmont District contest.

Laurel Park (5-2, 4-1) led throughout the game.

Lashawn Barber led Gretna with 23 points. \

GALAX - The Maroon Tide was successful in pounding the ball inside to Tammy Cox, who finished with a game-high 15, and the team went on to a Mountain Empire District victory.

Jaclyn Dickens scored 14 points to go with five assists and 10 rebounds for the Maroon Tide (3-2 overall, 3-2 in the district). Cox added eight rebounds. Bland (0-5, 0-5) scored nine points in the last three quarters. \

LYNCHBURG - Everyone played and nine of 10 scored as the Bengals motored off to a big early lead and never slowed in the Piedmont District victory.

Tasha Hairston, Lori Wimbush, and Aimee Barker scored 14 each for the Bengals (7-0 overall, 5-0 in the Piedmont District). Maxine Petty led Dan River (0-5 overall, 0-5 in the district) with 13 points. \
