CLARENCE HATCHER of Floyd celebrated his 100th birthday Tuesday.

The World War I veteran lives with his wife, daughter and caretaker in the house he built in 1924. He and his wife, Laura, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this fall.

\ JUNIOR VOLUNTEERS at RADFORD COMMUNITY HOSPITAL were honored at a reception for their hours of service. Each volunteer is 14 years old or more and assists with business services and admissions and in clinical departments four to eight hours per week during the summer. Those honored were: Robyn Carroll, Amy Chung, Geoff Cook, Amanda Griffitts, Kristi Kanode and Melanie Quesenberry of Radford.

Also, Kris Fain and Tim Williams of Draper; Marsha Hodge, Sherry Surface, Jennifer Litton and Angela White of Dublin; Terri Johnson, April Orange and Jennifer Songer of Christiansburg; and Jessica Whittaker of Pulaski.

\ JENNIFER FRENCH of Pulaski was presented the 1993 Muscular Dystrophy Association personal achievement award from the Southwest Virginia chapter of the organization.

\ HIX and LIL BONDURANT of Radford were part of a group of 33 descendants of Jean Pierre Bondurant who spent a week in his home area of Genolhac, France. The Bondurant Association traces its lineage to Jean Pierre Bondurant, a Huguenot who came to America in 1700.

\ CAROLE DAVIS of Blacksburg has a selection of her watercolors on display until Nov. 3 at the University of Virginia's Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville.

The SOUTHSIDE GARDEN CLUB held its September meeting at Mrs. Emmet DeWitt's home with Mrs. Thomas Caceci serving as co-hostess. Blue ribbons were awarded to Mrs. Donald Bloss, Mrs. R.W. Hendricks, Mrs. Daniel Ludwig, Mrs. Walter O'Brien and Mrs. R.L. Simpson. Blue ribbons for horticulture were given to Mrs. Caceci, Mrs. Hendricks, Mrs. Ludwig, Mrs. John Muench and Mrs. Carl Witherspoon.

The TRILLIUM GARDEN CLUB held a Welcome Tea, its first meeting of the season, at Loretta Reifsniker's home. Officers for 1993-94 are Sally L. Fennick, president; Louisa Mason, vice president; Lois Edlund, secretary; and Beverly Kingston, treasurer. Gift awards were given to Ormie Bell and Beverly Kingston for their years of service and commitment to the club. The next meeting is Oct. 6. \ ROBERT S. LOCKETT III, grandson of Rhoda F. Lockett-Davis of Pulaski, has been promoted to vice president at Wachovia Bank in Gainesville, Ga.

Several members of the MONTGOMERY COUNTY 4-H LIVESTOCK CLUB have won awards in livestock competitions. At the Southwest Virginia Livestock Show, BRANDON BUNN of Riner showed the Grand Champion Market Steer and won a $1,000 savings bond. BRIAN BUNN of Riner showed the Reserve Champion Market Steer and won a $500 savings bond. LORI McKINNON of Christiansburg received a $200 savings bond for her Grand Champion Market Lamb, and her heifer won Grand Champion in the British breed division. KELLY McKINNON of Christiansburg was awarded Reserve Champion for her pair of lambs. JUSTIN WHITTIER of Blacksburg won Grand Champion in the exotic breed division.

At the Virginia State Livestock Judging Competition at Virginia Tech, the junior team of LORI McKINNON, BRIAN BUNN, DARREN EVERSOLE of Blacksburg and KELLY McKINNON placed first team overall. Eversole won the high individual overall in junior competition.

Eversole also placed first in Junior Cattle Showmanship, and CHERISE WHITTIER of Blacksburg placed second. SHANE WHITTIER of Blacksburg took first place in Novice Showmanship.

In the purebred heifer division, KELLY McKINNON, JUSTIN WHITTIER and MELISSA WHITTIER of Blacksburg placed. Eversole showed the Reserve Champion Angus heifer. Winners in the commercial heifer classes were STEPHEN GRAYBEAL of Christiansburg, LORI McKINNON and BRIAN BUNN. APRIL LESTER of Riner won the Senior Showmanship competition and Herdsman Award with her 10 dairy goats.

At the 4-H FAIR at the New River Valley Mall, MISTY HEDRICK of Blacksburg received a trophy and cash as top senior member, and ROBIN GUYNN of Blacksburg placed second among seniors. In the junior division, ANGELA PRICE of Christiansburg placed first; JAMIE HEDRICK of Blacksburg, second; and JENNIFER LINK of Blacksburg, third.
