IN SERVICE

Navy Lt. FREDRICK S. HALL, Navy Petty Officer 1st Class GENE D. SHANNON and Marine Pfc. CHARLES A. CALFEE have left with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit for a sixth-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea as part of the aircraft carrier USS America Joint Task Group.

The group will relieve the USS Theodore Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier Battle Group, its Special Purpose Marine Air-Group Task Force and the USS Saipan Amphibious Ready Group.

The expeditionary unit is stationed at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejenue, N.C.

Hall is the son of F. Spencer and Kathy L. Hall of Radford. Shannon is a 1977 graduate of Shawsville High School. Calfee is the son of Carolyn S. Calfee of Dublin.

Navy Seaman Recruit DAVID S. LONG, son of Mary C. and Bobby J. Long Sr. of Blacksburg, has returned from a six-month tour of the Mediterranean, Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean aboard the USS El Paso, based in Norfolk.

Navy Seaman MARK C. HOLLOWAY, son of Christine E. Journey of Radford, is aboard the salvage and repair ship USS Edenton, based at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base in Virginia Beach. He participated in an aircraft recovery operation involving an Air Force F-16 that crashed in Croatian territorial waters.

Navy Seaman GREGORY A. HARRIS, son of Sandra G. and James R. Harris Sr. of Dublin, is midway through a six-month Mediterranean deployment aboard the dock landing ship USS Pensacola, based at the Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base in Virginia Beach.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class DENISE L. RICHARDSON, daughter of Jonathan Newman of Floyd, has received the Navy Good Conduct Medal, which recognizes honest and faithful service over a four-year period.

Completing basic training:

Marine 2nd Lt. KEITH B. FRANTZ, son of Nevin R. Frantz Jr. and Sally J. Frantz, both of Blacksburg, at The Basic School. During the course at the Marine Corps Development Command in Quantico, newly commissioned officers are prepared for assignment to the Fleet Marine Force.

Airman KEVIN S. COOK, son of Bill L. and Brenda M. Cook of Floyd, Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Navy Seaman KEVIN L. DOOLEY, son of Charles A. and Eleanor M. Dooley of Pearisburg, at the Recruit Training Command in San Diego.

Navy seaman recruit ROBERT W. MARILLA, a 1990 graduate of Blacksburg High School, at the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

Marine Cpl. ROBERT B. CLARK, son of Charlie B. and Brenda G. Clark of Pulaski, has graduated from the logistic vehicle systems maintenance course at Marine Corps Service Support School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
