INDIANS PICK UP CROSS COUNTRY WIN

Blacksburg's Scott Shepperd ran the Virginia Tech course in 18 minutes flat to lead the Indians to a cross country victory over Salem and Graham. Blacksburg finished with 21; Salem totaled 38. Graham did not have enough runners to accumulate team points.

In the girls' competition, Vicki Kappas of Blacksburg finished first with a time of 22:38. Salem and Graham did not have enough runners for a team competition.

David Angel of Franklin County set a course record of 16:06 in a Roanoke Valley District cross country meet at Pulaski, but Cave Spring runners captured six of the top 10 spots to give the Knights the victory. Cave Spring scored 26 points, followed by Franklin County (35), Pulaski County (75), William Fleming (120) and Patrick Henry (121).

Ann Pohig of Cave Spring set a course record of 19:52 as the Knights won the girls' competition. Cave Spring finished with 25 and Franklin County was second with 30. The other schools did not score.

At Glenvar, Robert Pauley finished first in 17 minutes, 9 seconds to lead Lord Botetourt to a cross country victory over the Highlanders. The Cavaliers scored 21 points to Glenvar's 38. In the girls' competition, Glenvar's Trisha Nervo placed first in 19:11. Not enough runners were fielded to compile a girls' team score.
