DYING JELLYFISH CLOG FLA. NUCLEAR PLANT

One of a nuclear power plant's two units was shut down Wednesday after thousands of dying jellyfish clogged an ocean intake pipe.

A similar situation occurred at the Florida Power & Light Co. plant in September 1984, said utility spokesman Ray Golden.

"This is the time of year when they're at the end of their life, and if the prevailing wind is from the southeast, it blows them toward our intake pipe," he said.
