VIRGINIA TECH VETERAN BOARD MEMBER DIES

Rhea F. Moore Jr., the longest-serving member on Virginia Tech's board of visitors, died Tuesday in a Charlottesville hospital. He was 68.

Moore, long active in the Democratic Party, was named to the board in 1982 by then-Gov. Charles Robb, said Tech spokesman David Nutter. Serving in his fourth term, he had been on the 14-member board longer than anyone in recent memory.

A 1948 Tech graduate, Moore served for 31 years as clerk of Circuit Court for Tazewell County. He was past president of the Virginia Clerks Association.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Tazewell Presbyterian Church. Peery and St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell is handling the arrangements.
