VINTON FIREFIGHTERS WILL DISCUSS HOW DEPARTMENT USES ITS MONEY

Vinton volunteer firefighters are holding two public information meetings to explain how department funds are used.

The first session is Sundayfrom 2 until 6 p.m. at the firehouse, 120 W. Jackson Ave., and the next is Tuesdayfrom 7 until 9 p.m. at the firehouse.

The Roanoke County Commonwealth's Attorney recently said that a State Police investigation found the department has not violated any laws on spending donations made to it. An anonymous letter writer had accused the department of the misusing funds.

Chief Barry Fuqua said the firefighters feel strongly about answering questions about the allegations against the department.
