BOBCATS RIP VIKINGS

Radford got its first girls' basketball victory as Cathy Richardson and Charlee Taylor took turns doing a number on host Northside, scoring a 41-24 victory in a non-district game Thursday.

Cathy Richardson hit 10 of her game-high 16 points in the first half and Charlee Taylor made 10 of her 14 points in the second half for the Bobcats (1-8). The Vikings (3-4) scored 11 total points in the first three quarters.

Auburn 42

RINER - Tammy Cox scored 23 points, and Jacklyn Dickens added 17 as Galax (4-2, 4-2) handed host Auburn its first loss of the season 46-42 in a Mountain Empire District game. Renay Gardner led Auburn (6-1, 5-1) with 15 points and 17 rebounds.

BLUEFIELD - Sheila Bunn scored 12 points, and Gina Hill was 5-for-7 on free throws late in the fourth quarter as the visiting Cavaliers won a non-district game. Carroll County (4-3) was paced by a swarming defense that held Graham (5-3) scoreless in the second quarter.

FLOYD - The Buffaloes crusied to a 52-12 halftime lead and crushed the Pioneers in a Mountain Empire District game. Floyd County (8-1, 6-0), the fourth-ranked team in Timeland, was led by Lynette Nolley's 15 points and Leigh-Ann Pursifull's 14 points.

CHRISTIANSBURG - Rebecca McNeil ripped the Mountaineers for 28 points as the Blue Demons won in a non-district game. Christiansburg (2-3) led 34-31 after three quarters, then poured in 26 points in the fourth. Andrea Moore led Alleghany with 21 points.

INDEPENDENCE - The Green Wave bolted to a 15-3 lead after the first quarter and held on to beat the Blue Devils in a Mountain Empire District game. Melinda Fleeman led Narrows (2-4, 2-4) with 13 points. Grayson County (1-5, 1-6) got a team-high 10 points from Tia Stuart.

GILES - Nancy Tupper scored 23 points as Rocky Gap beat Giles in a Mountain Empire District game. Christie Whitt had 17 points and Amanda Clark 14 for Rocky Gap (5-4 overall, 4-2 district). Tomika Saunders had 14 points, Debbie Snidow 13 and Gina Claytor and Heather Matlock 11 each for Giles (1-5, 1-6).
