In other college athletics:

Virginia Tech will induct five former athletes into its Hall of Fame tonight, including the Hall's first woman member, former track All-American Lucy Hawk Banks.

A middle-distance champion in the late 1970s and 1980, Hawks joins inductees Roy Beskin (tennis), the late Bucky Keller (basketball), Bill Matthews (basketball and administration) and Jack Prater (football and administration).

The inductees will be honored at a dinner tonight on Tech's campus. Tech's Hall of Fame now has 62 members.

Virginia Tech athletic director Dave Braine has been appointed to the NCAA Special Events Committee, which is responsible for issues involving postseason football games and all-star football and basketball games.
