CANDIDATES TO DEBATE

Republican George Allen and Democrat Mary Sue Terry will square off in three televised debates next month in their race for governor, both campaigns announced Thursday.

They also will hold two other debates before business groups next month.

The televised debates will be held the evenings of Oct. 7, Oct. 12 and Oct. 18, the candidates said as they released a 21-point debate agreement. The locations have not been set.

The first two debates will feature questions from journalists and a moderator, while the third debate will include questions from a studio audience.

The candidates will question each other in all three debates.

The candidates also will debate Oct. 1 before the Virginia Manufacturers Association and Oct. 15 before the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce.
