MAN CHARGED IN KILLING OF PUPPY

A Roanoke man who allegedly twisted a puppy's neck and killed it was charged with cruelty to animals. Lewis W. Murphy was served a summons for the misdemeanor offense.

The stray puppy was left at Murphy's residence on Day Avenue, according to a police report. Murphy couldn't find the owners and left the dog on his porch.

A witness told a Roanoke City Animal Control officer that Murphy came out of the house, caught the puppy, twisted its neck and threw it on the ground.

The officer, responding to the citizen complaint, found the dead dog in a carport at Murhpy's residence.
