GREEN WAVE SWAMPS HIGHLANDERS 27-6

Whitey Blankenship rushed 14 times for 100 yards and three touchdowns as Narrows' Green Wave rolled over visiting Glenvar 27-6 in a non-district high school football game Friday night.

Blankenship scored on runs of 4 and 55 yards and on a reception of 26 yards for Narrows (2-1). Brett Mosley carried 16 times for 114 yards as the Green Wave amassed 319 yards of offense.

David Robinson scored Glenvar's touchdown on a 30-yard pass from Mike Stanley. The Highlanders (0-3) were held to 133 yards of offense. \

Floyd County 28

FLOYD - The Buffaloes ran for 198 yards and scored in every quarter as they whipped the visiting Shawnees in a Mountain Empire District game.

Floyd County (3-1 overall, 2-1 in the district) was paced by touchdowns from Gary Chaffin, Monty Moran, Jamie Warren and Mike Weeks, and the Buffaloes' defense held Shawsville to 159 yards total offense.

The Shawnees (0-3, 0-3) got inside Floyd County's 20-yard line twice in the fourth quarter but didn't score. \

Carroll County 28

Grayson County 22

HILLSVILLE - Senior quarterback Jason Kilbourne passed for one touchdown and ran for another in the fourth quarter as the Cavaliers pulled away after letting the previously unbeaten Blue Devils back into the game.

After falling behind 14-0 at halftime, Grayson County (3-1) recovered four second-half fumbles by Carroll County (3-2) and tied the score at 14-14 on a 7-yard run by Keith Johnson early in the fourth quarter.

The Cavaliers regained the lead on a 56-yard pass from Kilbourne to Brian Hawks and then went ahead 28-14 on Kilbourne's 38-yard touchdown run. Grayson's final touchdown came in the waning moments on a 34-yard pass from Bobby Cheeks to Daniel Osborne.

Cheeks completed eight of 13 passes for 113 yards for Grayson County, which had 199 yards in total offense. Carroll County had 344 yards, including 95 from Nicky Rodrigue and 91 from Kilbourne on the ground. \
