Season tickets will be on sale and fans will have a chance to meet and talk with Express owners and officials. Any male or female age 17 or older interested in trying out for the Express' Spirit Team also is invited to attend.
The Express' Spirit Team will be the club's ambassadors at games and related activities. In Lexington, Ferrum's Aaron Johnson and Matt Jordan each shot 2-over-par 74, putting them in a tie for first place after one round with Glenville State's Michael Barrett in the 14th annual Washington and Lee Fall Golf Classic.
Glenville State leads the team standings after one round with a 302. W & L's blue team is tied with Longwood for second place with a 311, Ferrum is fourth with a 312 and W & L's white team is fifth with a 329.
The 36-hole tournament concludes today.
In Walrond Park, Philip Wegner scored two goals in the first four minutes of the game as Roanoke Valley Christian whipped Hargrave Military 4-1 in a Virginia Independent Conference soccer match. The Eagles (3-0-1 overall, 2-0 in the conference) led 3-1 at the half.
In Charlottesville, freshman Lori Vile scored three goals to lead Maryland past Virginia 3-1 in a Atlantic Coast Conference women's soccer match. Barbara King scored the lone goal for the Cavaliers (2-5-1 overall, 0-1 ACC). Maryland is 4-1-1, 1-0.
Three Hokies won matches as the Virginia Tech women's tennis team opened it's season at the James Madison Invitational at Harrisonburg. In flight one singles, Jen Dinello defeated Geroge Mason's Ann Colombell 6-2, 6-1. In flight two singles, Cathy Dixon beat Kimberly Nance of Davidson 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Former Cave Spring standout Danielle Dunkin downed George Mason's Marie Veldhuyzen 7-6, 7-5 in flight five singles.
