POLITICIANS NEED TO VALUE EDUCATION

Not long after Nick Rush began serving on the Board of Supervisors in Montgomery County, he failed to vote to help the students by voting not to use funds from Richmond as intended.

Jim Shuler, on the other hand, understands that a well-educated, well-trained work force is the first and most important element in successful economic development. Shuler's campaign theme has stressed the significance of strong, basic education along with an economic development program that addresses adapting to the ever-changing needs of our global economy.

Shuler, as a businessman for 25 years, has been involved in serving the public with distinction. He has served on governor-appointed health boards and served the town of Blacksburg with a common-sense approach to Town Council.

On Nov. 2, we in the 12th House of Delegates District should continue the excellence of retiring Del. Joan Munford by electing Shuler. He understands that our children's future should not be callously shortchanged by playing politics with funds earmarked for education.\ Jon Halberstadt\ Christiansburg
