OBIT DEANS, HUGH MITCHELL
DEANS, Hugh Mitchell, 76, of Roanoke, formerly of Fredericksburg, died
Friday, September 24, 1993. He was born June 1, 1917 in Elizabeth City, N.C.,
the son of the late W.T. and Mary Twiddy Deans. Mr. Deans retired from the
U.S. Civil Service-Postal Service in December 1975 with 37 years service. He
was a member of First Baptist Church and it's Berean Bible Sunday School Class
and served for several years as a Scoutmaster in Fredericksburg. Hugh was a 50
year member and Past Master of Fredericksburg Lodge #4, and served as Past
District Deputy Grand Master. Mr. Deans was a member of the Royal Arch Chapter
#33, the Roanoke Scottish Rite Bodies, Kazim Temple, and The Roanoke Valley
Shrine Club, having served as chairman of it's Steward Committee. He was a
member of the K.C.C.H., and was a member and past patron of the Order of the
Eastern Star Chapter #29 in Fredericksburg. Serving in the U.S. Army during
World War II, Hugh was a Retired Lt. Col. in the Army Reserve. Surviving is
his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Crawley Deans; his daughter and son-in-law,
Marion Elizabeth and Dr. Larry Witter, Fredericksburg; three grandchildren,
Amy, Carrie, and Jenny Witter; two sisters Polly Oyeman and Lois Wynne.
Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside, Evergreen Burial Park
at 11 a.m. Monday with Dr. Gary A. Chapman and Rev. Doyal Spence officiating.
Masonic rites will be conducted by Webber High Twelve Lodge #282 A.F. & A.M.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday at Oakey's South Chapel, where the
family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
