At Salem, freshman Meredith Arnott scored the tying goal with a minute left in regulation and Robin McGlaughlin added two goals in overtime as Roanoke College defeated Virginia Wesleyan 3-1 in women's soccer. Roanoke is 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Marlins are 1-7 and 1-2.
At the Staunton Racket Club, Washington and Lee players reached the singles semifinals and the doubles final of the Rolex Southeast Regional Tournament, but the bids to the Rolex National Championship in November went to Washington College. Defending champions Pete Hammond and Robby MacNaughton of W&L lost 6-2, 6-4 to Miloslav Beran and Carlos Nuno in the doubles final. W&L's top-seeded MacNaughton lost in the semifinals to Bobby Fox of Virginia Wesleyan, who lost the title to Stefan Berger 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.
