200 PROTEST SPORTS STAR'S PROSECUTION

Marchers carrying signs reading "Free the Hampton Four" and chanting "No justice, no peace" protested the prosecutions of high school All-American Allen Iverson and three other teen-agers.

"There are some mean white folks in Hampton," Golden Frinks, a North Carolina-based civil rights organizer, said during Saturday's march. "And we've got to change that."

Iverson and the three co-defendants were the only people charged in a bowling alley brawl, during which three people - all white - were injured. Protesters at the march complained that no whites were prosecuted following the melee.

But several onlookers were not sympathetic.

"Break the law, and you go to jail," said David Hunt, 34, of Poquoson. "It's a very simple country we live in. Everybody seems to have forgotten about the girl they broke the chair over. What about her rights?"

"The sentence might have been too harsh, but justice needs to be served," said John Nichols, 26, of Hampton. "A broken arm and stitches is doing bodily injury."
