PIPELINE ISN'T A GOOD SOLUTION

REGARDING the long-discussed pipeline from Lake Gaston to Virginia Beach:

I've always believed in being a "good neighbor."

Since this project involves our neighbor, North Carolina, and they are against it, it should not be done.

However, it's not just the people of North Carolina who are against this. It's my understanding that the majority of people in the counties with rivers leading to Lake Gaston are also against it.

Since both the Republican and Democratic candidates for governor have said that they are committed to approving this project, I'd encourage those opposed to it not to vote for either of them.

In my opinion, this pipeline would be a temporary solution. Somewhere down the road a de-salting plant will have to be built. If it had been built 20 years ago, it would have cost much less than now. If built now, it would cost much less than 20 years from now. Another solution is to build a lake on a river closer to Virginia Beach. Maybe on the Notaway River in Southampton County.
