ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The Roanoke Regional Airport is gaining air cargo business this year while the number of boarding passengers has fallen slightly.

The airport reported that 9,257.85 tons of air cargo were loaded during the first eight months of the year. That is a gain of 9.97 percent over the 8,418.89 tons loaded during the same period in 1992.

During that period, 210,837 passengers boarded planes at the airport. The number is off 1.43 percent from the 213,897 boardings during the first eight months of 1992.

From August 1992 to last month, the number of passengers was down 8.4 percent while air cargo was up 8.75 percent.
