POSTMASTER PROMISES TO HOLD LINE ON POSTAGE

Postmaster General Marvin Runyon said Monday he will keep his promise to hold the price of mailing a first-class letter to 29 cents until 1995.

"We're not going to ask for a 35-cent stamp, or a 20-percent increase," Runyon told the National Postal Forum in Minneapolis.

Because of soaring red ink, Runyon has faced growing speculation that he may have to speed his plans for higher stamp prices. But Runyon told the gathering of commercial mailers, that this isn't going to happen. - The Washington Post
