CARROLL COUNTY BEATS GALAX IN OVERTIME

Visiting Carroll County used balanced scoring throughout a non-district high school girls' basketball game and made its free throws toward the end to defeat Galax 52-48 in overtime.

Eleven Cavaliers scored, and none had more than nine points.

The first half ended with the score 25-25. Carroll County led 35-32 after three quarters, but the Maroon Tide (4-3) fought back to lead 44-42 near the end. The Cavaliers tied the score with the last shot of regulation. In overtime, Galax missed several free throws.

The Maroon Tide's Tammy Cox had 29 points, including 11-for-17 on free throws, and pulled down 12 rebounds. Jaclyn Dickens had 12 points and nine rebounds. \
